There’s an old saying that says to be considered an expert you only need to know one more thing than the average person. In other words, it’s all relative!
[tweet_box design=”default” float=”none”]Everyone can be an expert at something as we all have talents. Believing in our own ability and having the courage to admit to being an expert is one thing that often holds back budding entrepreneurs.[/tweet_box]
Think about what it is you are good at or interested in and then ascertain if there is interest in that topic from other people. If the answer is yes you have found yourself the area that you can become an expert in. You may already know a lot on the topic or you may have to take some time to study and learn more about it in order to step into the information distribution industry as the ‘go-to’ expert.
Now what?
It’s one thing to be an expert at something but how do you let other people know that you are the expert and you have the knowledge to help them?
You need to learn to market yourself and the products or services that arise because of your expertise.
To do this we need to drive traffic to our content, products and services. The most effective way of doing this is by studying and learning one method of traffic generation and sticking to it before moving onto another method. We then effectively become an expert at marketing our expertise!
How should you present your content?
This depends on who your target audience is and where they like to hang out.
- Do they prefer videos?
- Are they readers?
- Do they prefer information in small bite size pieces?
- Would they prefer to attend a live, more interactive event (e.g. a webinar)?
Knowing this information is part of the research you need to do when you decide on your area of expertise. A simple way of finding out is to ask your existing following by polling them or inviting them to take a short survey. You can also post questions in Social Media groups and ask for feedback.
Once you know how your audience prefers to receive their information you can construct your content (video, webinar, eBook, etc.) and use your chosen traffic generation method to drive traffic to it.
Always leave your audience hungry for more and they will come back to you time and time again and your reputation as the expert will gain credibility every time you present your information.
