One of the essential pages that every website should have is an About Me page.

But surprisingly enough it is one page that is sadly lacking from a lot of websites.

Why?

Maybe you just haven’t got around to it yet!

Or you just don’t like talking about yourself (let’s face it, you may not think you are that interesting – trust me – you are – everyone has a story to tell)!

I get it… It’s not a priority…right?

But if you don’t have an About Me page you could be missing out on potential subscribers and clients.

Why? Because it is one of the most read pages on any website.

People like to know about you! They want to know what makes you tick! So they can relate to you on a personal level. They want to see that you are a real person with a story.

How many of us resonate with someone immediately when we find out we have something in common…

  • we went to the same college,
  • are from the same town,
  • have the same type of dog,
  • like the same things…

Your About Me page should tell them all that…. and more…

So what SHOULD you include on your About Me page?

There’s really only a couple of things you need to include on your About Me page.

Firstly…

Let people know they have found what they are looking for.

People usually search the Internet looking for a solution to something. They need to know, when they land on your website, that they have found the answer.

  • Tell them you have the information they are looking for. (What is it that you do? For example, I help people with their online marketing and help to make the Internet a nicer place by designing awesome websites!)
  • Tell them you can solve their problem. (State your experience)
  • Demonstrate you are just like them by sharing your story. We’ve already established people like to feel a connection with someone from a shared experience.

Your About Me page should answer some of the above points. It gives them a feel for who you are as a person and, more importantly, why you can help them with their problem.

It’s always a good idea to include a photo of yourself or a quick video. Putting a face to your name makes people connect with you on a deeper level.

What else should you do?

Guide your readers… Tell them what to do next…

Now that you have explained to your readers that you can help them, guide them where to go next to get that help.

Make it very easy by including a sign up form directly on your About Me page (you can even add a couple if you have a long page). Or maybe give them a clickable link to your posts.

Always invite them to contact you…

So there you have it! Now then, no more excuses!

Get out there and create your very own About Me page.

When you’re done, let me know in the comments’ section below so we can all go and check it out!
